CIW Server Administrator Part 1: Configuring
This is the first course in a five part series that will teach students how to install and configure servers. This course will cover the common IT tasks and services, operating systems, installation strategies, and configuring systems such as Windows 2000 and Linux. Additionally, the students will learn about common Web servers, access methods and remote administration in IIS, and creating virtual servers and virtual directories.

• Identify considerations for Uniform Resource Locator (URL) request processing.
• Identify features of common Web servers.
• Identify how to install Internet Information server (IIS).

 

CIW Server Administrator Part 2: User Management
This is the second course in a five part series that will teach students how to manage users. The essentials of user management are presented, as well as the techniques for managing users in Windows 2000 and managing users in Linux. Students will learn how to deal with the SAM, user rights, policies, and shared folders. In addition, they will learn how to deal with manually and automatically adding users in Linux, linuxconf, password files, and policies.

• Identify features of the peer-to-peer network security model.
• Identify features of shares in peer-to-peer settings.
• Identify features of the Security Accounts Manager (SAM).
• Add a user account.
• Modify user rights.

CIW Server Administrator Part 3: Services
This is the third course in a five part series that will teach students about services. This course will cover name resolution with Windows 2000 and Linux, name resolution with WINS and Samba, and implementing Internet services. The learner is taught how to install a DNS service in Windows 2000, and how to configure DNS servers and clients. This course also introduces NetBIOS, how to configure WINS servers and Samba and SWAT.The final section in the course, Implementing Internet Services, deals with FTP servers and controlling access in FTP.

• Install a Windows 2000 primary Domain Name System (DNS) server.
• Identify functions of the Dynamic Domain Name Server (DDNS).
• Sequence the steps to create a DNS server zone.
• Identify features of the network basic input/output system (NetBIOS).

• Sequence the steps performed by Windows 2000 servers to resolve NetBIOS names.
• Identify characteristics of the File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
• Identify considerations when planning a FTP site for use with the Web.
• Identify FTP management features in Internet Information Server (IIS).

 

CIW Server Administrator Part 4: Servers
This is the fourth course in a five part series that will teach students about various servers. This course will cover Web applications, Perl, gateways, and streaming Web servers. Additionally, students will learn about the installation and configuration of both E-Mail and News.

• Edit a HTTP error message.
• Identify features of Web applications.
• Identify features of the Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) Service.

CIW Server Administrator Part 5: Server Integrity
This is the final course in a five part series that deals with optimizing server performance and services and protecting the integrity of servers. The course will also cover server optimization, security, and fault tolerance.
