| Careers in the Field: |
The Royal Horticultural Society exams can be the starting point for two challenging and varied career paths.
Commercial Horticulturalists often specialise in producing crops such as fruits and vegetables to be sold as food, and can work in both indoor (glasshouses) and outdoor environments. They also work in garden centres and nurseries.
Amenity Horticulturalists focus more on developing and maintaining public and private gardens. They are frequently employed by local authorities, private contracting firms, private estates or national parks and gardens.
In both cases, salaries vary depending on the type of employer, but a typical starting salary outside the London area might be £10,000 and can rise up to £20,000+ with the right experience.
The ICS-RHS Programme is the most flexible and cost-effective way of gaining the qualifications you need for a flourishing career. |
