The programme aims to give the learner basic knowledge relating to:
Unit 1. Self-Development
• Identifying personal reasons for completing the programme and strategies to effectively allocate time to the learning programme.
• How to identify people who are able to support him/her
• Effective reading and note-taking methods and the value of maintaining a personal learning log throughout the programme
Unit 2. Understanding Drug Use
• The history of drug use up to present day
• What a drug is and some of the factors and attitudes influencing drug use
• Legislation relating to drugs in the UK
Unit 3. Drug Facts
• The broad categories of drugs and the drugs and substances which fall into these categories
• The different drugs in each category and their effects
Unit 4. Different Types and Levels of Drug Use and the Associated Problems
• The different categories of drug use and the categories drug problem are defined into
• Methods to assess drug problems and the basic types of response to drug use
• The concept of Harm Reduction and its aims in the drugs field
Unit 5. Types of Drug Service and What They Offer
• The different UK drug treatment services and the different kinds of treatment offered by these services |

NOTE ON NVQ'S
It should be noted that NVQ's are assessed in the workplace and judge competence against national standards. The ASET Awards do not in any way attempt this and therfore , in terms of what they are seeking to assess, cannot be directly compared to NVQ's.
Personal Project - Students need access to an appropriate establishment in order to complete their Personal Project eg a Care Home |

| External Exam Information: |
There is no end exam for this course - continuous assessment. This course includes a
test paper, a Knowledge Assessment workbook and Personal Project that
you complete as part of your coursework from home. |
| Additional Exam Fees: |
There is an ASET registration fee of £21.00 which must be paid before the ASET Certificate can be awarded. If students do not pay this they will only be eligible for an ICS Diploma. There are no exam fees. |
