If you currently work in a veterinary nursing practice, the ICS Certificate for Animal Nursing Assistants, you could give your career ambitions a real boost.
You’ll find the course will help you learn how to improve your valuable support role to qualified Veterinary staff, and give you better understanding of how to properly assist owners in the correct management of their animals.
The course will also provide you with a number of skills that will help you around your practice, including the handling of finances and retailing of products. On successful completion of the course you’ll be able to register as a Student Veterinary Nurse on the RCVS Veterinary Nursing Scheme. |
| Requirements: |
Must be in EITHER full time (35 hours or more per week) OR part time (20 hours or more per week) employment in a veterinary practice.
Must enrol with the BVNA - there is a special enrolment form that the student has to fill in which includes a section to be completed by the Veterinary practice. This way the BVNA can check that the pre-requisites have been met.
Enrolment Procedure:
• Student calls. TSR checks pre-requisites are met
• Enrolment and payment details are taken but no money is taken. Hold code put on the account.
• Student details go into a special promo cycle. A letter and BVNA enrolment form goes to student.
• Student sends completed enrolment form and reg fee of £120 to BVNA.
• BVNA inform Programme Mgt Team that student can now enrol.
• The student is contacted to tell them BVNA have registered them and that course payment will now be taken.
• Admin release hold code and activate the enrolment. |

| External Exam Information: |
Students must be enrolled with BVNA for a certain amount of time before being eligible to sit the examinations - for those in full-time employment it is 9 months and those in part-time employment it is 18 months.
The students will need to sit their examination in a BVNA approved centre as an external candidate. Basically it is the same scenario as the A level and GCSE assessments. The BVNA will arrange their examinations through a centre. The cost of the exams is £80.00.
Examinations take place in June and November each year. Entry forms will be automatically sent to those candidates who are eligible to sit the exam. There are 22 exam centres nationwide.
The Animal Nursing Assistants qualification consists of:
• Internal Assessment, 20% of total mark= Case log book. Completed in the practice and
• External Assessment, 80% of total mark = Four externally set multiple choice exam papers
– Paper 1 – Husbandry, Animal Management and First Aid – 45 multiple choice questions
– Paper 2 – Biological Science - 45 multiple choice questions
– Paper 3 – Health, Hygiene, Basic Nursing and Safety - 35 multiple choice questions
– Paper 4 – Finance, Veterinary Reception and Administration - 35 multiple choice questions |

£257 (includes ABC Registration Fee of £80). This charge includes your Case Logbook, Syllabus, Examination, Certification and 1 year's BVNA Membership. |
