| Summary: |
The Course will enable students to : • Take practical steps to encourage clients to maintain their independence.
• Recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse and understand the procedures to be followed in dealing with cases of abuse.
• Recognise and effectively deal with aggressive and abusive clients.
• Assist clients to exercise and help to maintain mobility, including the use of mobility aids.
• Promote recreation and leisure activities for clients.
• Assist in the care of terminally ill patients and support those experiencing grief and loss.
• Control stock efficiently and dispose of waste safely.
• Understand the importance of confidentiality in dealing with clients and maintain client records in accordance with statutory and operational requirements.
• Understand and promote the rights of clients and respect the beliefs of individuals.
• Understand the principles of basic food hygiene and safe food handling.
• Assist in the process of infection control within the care environment.
• Work effectively with colleagues as a member of a team.
• Identify the main legislation affecting Health and Safety at Work and operate safely in a care environment. |

It should be noted that NVQ's are assessed in the workplace and judge competence against national standards. The ASET Awards do not in any way attempt this and therfore , in terms of what they are seeking to assess, cannot be directly compared to NVQ's.
Personal Project - Students need access to an appropriate establishment in order to complete their Personal Project eg a Care Home |

| External Exam Information: |
There is no end exam for this course - continuous assessment. This course includes a
test paper, a Knowledge Assessment workbook and Personal Project that
you complete as part of your coursework from home. |
| Additional Exam Fees: |
There is an ASET registration fee of £11.75 which must be paid before the ASET Certificate can be awarded. If students do not pay this they will only be eligible for an ICS Diploma. There are no exam fees. |
